Hey there!
The blogs featured this week are Books Galore and The Fake Steph Dot Com!
This week's question:
Q: This Sunday in the U.S. is Mother's Day. In celebration, what are some of your favorite books with strong mother/child relationships?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think some YA books don't really emphasise the mother/child relationship, I read many books where the main character may either hate their parents or couldn't careless how their actions could effect them whether it's the mother or father. However, sometimes beautiful mother/child relationships bloom and are firmly in place throughout some books.
One mother and daughter relationship which I really like is Clara and her mother Maggie (Unearthly), I felt like they always could count on each other at tough times, Clara seemed to be able to approach her mother most of the time she felt like she was having trouble.

I also like Cammie and her mother's relationship (Gallagher Girls) because in many situations they are always there to give each other support and I loved how Cammie always kept her mother on her mind.

I LOVE Cammie's relationship with her mother and Unearthly has been popping up so much today that I think I am going to HAVE to read it!
ReplyDeleteThese are both popular answers this week and I haven't read either. I will have to remedy that soon. Thanks for sharing!

I totally agree with you. There aren't many books with strong child/parent relationships. Maybe that's why I had such a hard time picking one specific example! Check out my FF @ http://best-of-ya.blogspot.com/2012/05/feature-follow-friday-20.html. I'm a new follower by the way!
ReplyDeleteNew follower! I haven't read Unearthly yet, but I agree that it's kind of hard to find good mom/child relationships in YA lit! Here is my FF if you'd like to follow back: http://theonceandfuturelibrarian.blogspot.com/2012/05/follow-friday-mothers-day-edition.html
ReplyDeleteI've heard Unearthly a couple of time. It's on my TBR list and I think I might be able to finally get to it this month. So it's exciting to see it keep popping up.
ReplyDeleteMy follow friday
Both of these have been popular answers, which has encouraged me to add them to the top of my to-read list. But yeah, it is sad how many YA books are lacking a good mother/daughter relationship. This FF has just made me more aware of the ones that do have good examples of awesome moms.
ReplyDeleteHere's my FF.
New follower, I didn't think of the Unearthly series that is such a great pick, my FF
