TGIF #8 {Swoon worthy quotes}

TGIF is a weekly feature
created and hosted by the awesome Ginger at GReads
that re-caps the week’s posts and
has a different question each week.

This Friday's Question:

Quotes That Make You Swoon: What are some of the most swoon-worthy quotes you've experienced in a book?

Okay, I could give you a mountain of quotes if I wanted to but I'm going to try my best to compile a list of quotes that include my favourite books, they may not all be swoon worthy so you'll have to get through the list to find some swoon worthy ones!

“But if I hadn't fallen, I wouldn't have met you.”
-Patch, Hush Hush

“Tucker: Why would you tell me now if it's against the rules?
Clara: Because I love you.”
- Unearthly

“I just wanted to tell you that I understand if you go. It’s okay if you have to leave us. It’s okay if you want to stop fighting.”
― Adam, If I Stay

“Love, it never dies. It never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it. Love can make you immortal”
― Mia, If I Stay

"I'll never forget the way he tastes, It is not anything I can describe, a little sweet and a whole lot of spice, and it feels, in that moment, absolutely right"
― Clara, Hallowed

“I need him to know that I came for him. I need him to know that somehow, at some point in the tunnels, I began to love him.”
― Lena, Pandemonium

“What does it feel like to be infected?"

"I-- I can't describe it." I force the words out. Can't breathe, can't breathe, can't breathe. His skin smells like smoke from a wood fire, like soap, like heaven. I imagine tasting his skin; I imagine biting his lips.
"I want to know." His words are a whisper, barely audible. "I want to know with you.”

- Pandemonium, Lauren Oliver

Cal: “So that is how I feel about you. Now. Could you put the pen down and kiss me, please?”
And suddenly, I find that I can.
Because my heart has become filled with something. Something I can’t really describe.
Except that it feels like bianco frizzante.
- Every Boy's Got One, Meg Cabot

“Spanish, huh?" he said, glancing down at the scattered papers as he grabbed them. "Can you say anything interesting?"

"El tono de tu voz hace que queria estrangularme." I stood up and waited for him to hand over my papers.
"That sounds sexy," he said, getting to his feet and handing me the stack of Spanish work he'd swept together. "What's it mean?"
"The sound of your voice makes me want to strangle myself."
"Kinky.”

- The Duff, Kody Keplinger

Wesley Rush doesn't chase girls, but I'm chasing you.”
- The Duff, Kody Keplinger

“I'm not with Rob," I say quickly. "Not anymore."

"You're not?" He's staring at me so intensely I can see the stripes of gold alternating with the green in his eyes like spokes of a wheel.
I shake my head.
"That's a good thing." He's still staring at me like that, like he's the first and last person who will ever stare at me.
"Because..." His voice trails off, and his eyes travel slowly down to my lips, and there's so much heat roaring through
my body I swear I'm going to pass out.
"Because?" I prompt him, surprised I can still speak.
"Because I'm sorry, but I can't help it, and I really need to kiss you right now.”

- Before I fall, Lauren Oliver

Fairy Metal Thunder Read Along & Scavenger Hunt: Week Two

It's week two of Fairy Metal Thunder Read Along & Scavenger Hunt! The Read Along is hosted by Missie from The Unread Reader, Kelly from Reading The Paranormal, Tina from Tina's Book Review and Jen from In The Closet With a Bibliophile.

1. Unfairly grounded by his parents, Jason decides to lie to them so he can go to the audition in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, not only does the audition end poorly but his parents discover his lie and things go downhill from there. Tell us the most outrageous lie you've ever been caught in. Bonus points if you can provide pictorial proof. Reenactments eagerly accepted.

LYING IS BAD! But I've done it quite a lot so it means I'm a VERY BAD PERSON! LOL! I've told countless lies which are normally the small tiny kind so nothing major. THE BIGGEST LIE I've ever told has to be when I pulled out some of my mum's flowers accidently mistaking them for weeds, my mum was all dramatic as she's a major drama queen and a super religious gardener. I lied and said I thought I saw someone come into the garden. My mum actually went to extremes thinking someone had  had wanted to break into the house! TO THIS DAY I STILL FEEL GUILTY!

2. In Faerie, Aoide is summoned to see the Faerie Queen. Have you ever met someone important like the Faerie Queen? Someone famous? Tell us the story behind how it happened. Once again, pictures are a plus!

I sort of met Prince Charles a few years back, his royalty so it must count as someone famous, he stood in front of me and waved, I don't think that counts as meeting him. I managed to see him because he was attending a music hall next to my school so he thought to stop by and say hi. It was specifically the music hall shown below!

I have met someone sort of famous who is probably only popular with teens in the UK, I'm just assuming. His a rapper called 'Ironik', I'm actually not a fan and I don't really listen to his music but I managed to get his autograph, I know I'm a lame. I met him at an event which was held to tell young people about STDs, embarrassing much? He actually has a song with Jessica Lowndes who you might know as Adriana from 90210!

3. Caught lying to his father about his non-existent job at the car wash, Jason has now found gainful employment at Buddy McSlawburger's - where he's forced to wear "the funny hat" as part of his uniform. What's the worst job you've ever had? Did it involve a particularly noxious uniform? Tell us about it - in riveting, full-color detail!

I've NEVER had to wear a horrendous uniform, wait wait, does school uniform count? Well imagine a bright red uniform, wherever you went as a school you'd stick out like a sore thumb! You'd have normal people out on the street and then be overwhelming by WAVE of blood red!

4. In an effort to regain their stolen instruments, Aoide and Rhodia travel to the sugar swamp to hire a hunter. Wouldn't you love to live somewhere where the water is sweet and the grass is made of sugar cane? Show us a picture of you enjoying your favorite sweet treat. Or, rewrite history and tell us how your version of the sugar swamp would differ from the one in the book

I'm sorry I finished the chocolate muffin before I could take a picture of it. Ooops! It was a McDonalds chocolate muffin!

My Book Boyfriend #5 {Adam Wilde}

It's Wednesday today which means it's that time of the week where I get to fangirl over one of my favourite book boys!
My Book Boyfriend is hosted by Missie at the Unread Reader

This week I'm reading 'Where She Went' by Gayle Forman and I can't help but adore Adam even more then I did in 'If I Stay'. I can't believe it's taken me a while to pick up the book but I'm definitely glad I did, you really get a chance to look further into Adam's character and fall in love with him for so many reasons!
Well who could resist a rocker?

Description:
  • His eye's are flecked green, brown and grey.
  • He has a lopsided smile (I know right? CUTE!)
  • Plays guitar and obsessed with music.
  • Super romantic.
  • Songwriter!

     Quotes:
    “I get it now.
I have to make good on my promise. To let her go. To really let her go.
    To let us both go.”

“We'll tell our secrets to the dark"- Adam
    "Okay"- Mia
"So let's hear another of your irrational fears"- Adam
"I'm scared of losing you"- Mia
"I said 'irrational' fears. Because that's not gonna happen"- Adam
    "It still scares me"- Mia”

“Her hands were freezing, just like they always were, so I warmed them, just like I always did.”

“I know that unlike that night, tonight I won't kiss her. Or touch her. Or even see her up close. Tonight, I'll listen. And that'll be enough.”

“You dumb-ass," I crooned, kissing her on the forehead. "You don't share me. You own me.”

“You're a total freak. But you're my freak.”

“The music is the void. And you're the reason why.”
I think I sort of nearly ruined the ending of the book for myself by reading all the quotes but I just can't help but admire Adam so much, he is the sort of guy you know you can lean on and will be there for you through the tough times. If you read the books you might just love him as much as I do!

Leave the link to your post in the comment section so I can go adore your book boyfriends too!

What I am currently reading? #1 (One Breath Away & Where She Went)

My TBR list is forever growing so I'm never lost for a book. But now that I'm going to be on break soon for the summer I can get through my pile quicker. At the moment I'm reading:

One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf (ARC via Netgalley)

Officer Meg Barrett holds the responsibility for the town's children in her hands. Will Thwaite, reluctantly entrusted with the care of his two grandchildren by the daughter who left home years earlier, stands by helplessly and wonders if he has failed his child again. Trapped in her classroom, Evelyn Oliver watches for an opportunity to rescue the children in her care. And thirteen-year-old Augie Baker, already struggling with the aftermath of a terrible accident that has has brought her to Broken Branch, will risk her own safety to protect her little brother.

As tension mounts with each passing minute, the hidden fears and grudges of the small town are revealed as the people of Broken Branch race to uncover the identity of the stranger who holds their children hostage.

I've only just began the book and it definitely already has me on my feet. The book throws you into the deep end straight from the start.

Where She Went by Gayle Forman (If I Stay #2)

It's been three years since the devastating accident . . . three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.

Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Juilliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future-and each other.

I'm halfway through the book and it's already tugging at my emotions, the mood of the book is absolutely different to the first book. Furthermore it's told in Adam's point of view so you get an insight into his life which is very different to Mia's. It's great yo be able to see Mia through someone else's eyes and how much she has changed after the accident.

Favourite Quotes

“These songs tell me I'm not alone. If you look at it that way, music...music can see you through anything.”

There is so much beauty in just existing. In being alive. I don't want to miss a second.”

“Deciding to kiss Jake is like standing on the edge of a pool, staring down and wanting to take the leap, but fearing how cold the water will be.
I hold my breath and jump.”

Words To Describe The Book

Emotional Roller Coaster

My Thoughts

When I read a book, what really makes me love a book is when I connect with it emotionally. SAVING JUNE did exactly that, it me feel, understand, connect and really believe. Some moments were intense, some were beautiful, some were magical.

SAVING JUNE was a journey, straight from the start of the book there's a purpose, something that guides the characters through the book. A large proportion of the book takes you on a roadtrip, there are the ups and downs, struggles and pains to get through. The main character Harper is going through the loss of her sister, the book really puts into perspective the inner struggle and the coming to terms with her sister's death. Harper is strong minded and stubborn, I really began to like her because of how head strong she actually was, there are moments when her decisions did faze me and I couldn't quite understand why she being a slight bit rash.

SAVING JUNE moves at a steady pace, it holds the reader and keeps you guessing. During the roadtrip you watch strong bonds between characters coming through, you can see characters being built up and developed beautifully and really get a sense of what sort of person they are.

For me I think the music was what gave SAVING JUNE a wow factor, it gave the book depth, the music for me sort of interwined aspects of the book together, it was also a common ground for both the reader and the characters. I think music really brought out the emotional part of SAVING JUNE.

Overall, the author beautifully puts together loss, struggle and music and writes a masterpiece which highlights aspects of life that people face and gives the reader a sense of hope for everyone. I even shed a few tears at the end.

Rating:
5/5

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin for the arc.

Fairy Metal Thunder Read Along & Scavenger Hunt: Week One

This is the first read along I've ever done, the idea of it is rather intriguing and exciting, well who wouldn't get excited at the chance to read a book together with other bloggers! AND reading a book about fairies and bands is even more fun filled!

Chapters 1-6

1. At the beginning of the story, the Assorted Zebras are just a garage band, but they are expecting to make it big. Who knows, you just might find yourself at one of their concerts someday. Until then, show me your favorite concert t-shirt. It could be a picture of a concert you actually attended or a pic of a vintage tee of your favourite band. Be sure to tell me the story behind the tee.

I actually haven't been to a concert of one of my favourite bands, I know right, shocker? Maybe one day! I love music and have a few favourite bands, Paramore are one of my all time favourites followed up by You Me At Six! I've actually got a long list of bands that I love but those two are at the top. I found some tees that are super awesome and I want my hands on one.

You Me At Six concert
2. Jason’s mom forces him to agree to do some yard work for Mrs. Dullahan, which wouldn’t be so bad if she wasn’t rumored to be a witch. Tell me about the worst chore you were ever forced to do. Who make you do it? Bonus points if you have a picture to share of you doing the dirty work.

I'm a lazy person when it comes to cleaning up but I do find it rather calming and relaxing sometimes, people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them, maybe I am crazy? The worst chore has to be something to do with the toilet, it's not like it's super dirty or anything, I get this STAY AWAY FROM CLEANING THE TOILET IT'S DISGUSTING vibe all the time, so I always manage to steer clear of it and make someone else to do it!

3. Uh oh! There seems to be a jewellery thief in the neighborhood. Have you have had anything stolen from you? Or have you ever lost something precious? Did you ever find it? Make a Reward if Found poster for the stolen or lost item. Convince us to find it for you. Make the reward good!

LOST!

SILVER BRACELET WITH STRAWBERRIES ON IT!
REWARD:
- UNLIMITED AMOUNTS OF STRAWBERRIES
- LIFETIME SUPPLY OF CHOCOLATE
- ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY ANY BOOK
- TICKETS TO ANY FICTIONAL WORLD
- CHANCE TO SPEND A DAY WITH ANY FICTIONAL CHARACTER OF YOUR CHOICE
If found please return to Tasnin @ The Wild Reader to claim your reward!
4. In Faerie, Jason declares himself as Jason the Guy Who Wants That Necklace Back. Weird, but then again every name has a meaning. What does your name mean? What is the origin? Do you go by any kind of nicknames? How did you get that nickname?

My name Tasnin has an Arabic origin to it, it's closest meaning is a 'fountain in paradise'. I have one specific nickname which everyone seems to call me by which is Taz which is nothing really special, actually sort of common.

5. When Jason gets home from his all night adventures through Fairy, his parents unfairly ground him for a month! Care to share a time you were grounded by your parents for no good reason?

I've actually NEVER been grounded! WOHOO! Being a good girl definitely has it's upside. The most I'd gotten in trouble was probably being lectured for a few hours and then it all sort of died down after a while! High fives to all the good girls out there!

More next Friday, why don't you go pick up the book Fairy Metal Thunder before next Friday!

My Book Boyfriend #4 {Finn Holmes}

It's Wednesday today which means it's that time of the week where I get to fangirl over one of my favourite book boys!
My Book Boyfriend is hosted by Missie at the Unread Reader

Last night I finished reading SWITCHED by Amanda Hocking! One thing this book wasn't lacking was hot guys and Finn Holmes definitely held a fair share of hotness. I just knew I had to fangirl about him in this post and I would love for you to check out the book too!

About Finn Holmes and description:
  • One of the best trackers in Trylle.
  • Black hair.
  • Super dark eyes.
  • Sexy stubble.
  • Gracious and respectable.

Quotes:

“Finn: I look at you because I can't look away Wendy.
Wendy: That's kinda creepy.
Finn: I will work on being less creepy then.”

“He kissed me desperately, like a drowning man and I was his oxygen.”

“I wanted to show you that it's not all cold and intimidating," Finn explained. "I wanted you to see something warm and beautiful.”

“How did you even know I wasn't in my room?"
"I checked on you." Finn gave me a look like I was an idiot. "I check on you every morning."
"You check on me when I'm sleeping?" I gaped at him. "Every morning?"
He nodded.
"I didn't know that."
"Why would you know that? You're sleeping," Finn pointed out.”

Finn is the sort of guy you know will treat you right that's why I like him so much, I'm not sure how Finn's character progresses through the series but I'm surely going to pick up the other books to find out!

Leave your link in the comment section so I can hop over to your blog and join you in fangirling over one of your book boyfriends!

Review of Hallowed by Cynthia Hand

Book Title: Hallowed
Author: Cynthia Hand
Publisher: HarperTeen
Publication Date: January 17th 2012
Page Count: 320
Buy The Book: Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Synopsis

For months part-angel Clara Gardner trained to face the raging forest fire from her visions and rescue the alluring and mysterious Christian Prescott from the blaze. But nothing could prepare her for the fateful decisions she would be forced to make that day, or the startling revelation that her purpose—the task she was put on earth to accomplish—is not as straightforward as she thought. Now, torn between her increasingly complicated feelings for Christian and her love for her boyfriend, Tucker, Clara struggles to make sense of what she was supposed to do the day of the fire. And, as she is drawn further into the world of part angels and the growing conflict between White Wings and Black Wings, Clara learns of the terrifying new reality that she must face: Someone close to her will die in a matter of months. With her future uncertain, the only thing Clara knows for sure is that the fire was just the beginning.

Favourite Quotes:

“Our purpose on this earth is not one single event, an accomplishment we can check off a list. There is no test. No passing or failing. There's only us, each moment shaping who we are, into what we will become.”

“I'll never forget the way he tastes. It's not anything I can describe, a little sweet and a whole lot of spice, and it feels, in that moment, absolutely right.”

Words To Describe The Book:

Emotional

My Thoughts:

HALLOWED was a strongly emotional book which captured me both as a reader as well as rooting itself deep in my emotions.

HALLOWED carry's on not long after where UNEARTHLY ends. Clara seems to be burdened with more obstacles and issues which she has to conquer in this book. You really see some relationships blossom strongly in this book especially Clara and her mother's, their bond is not like what you see in most YA books where the main character seems to not connect well with their parents, but this book shows otherwise. You also get a deeper insight into characters that were only touched upon in UNEARTHLY, the author gives each character a story which presents them with depth and mystery.

Cynthia Hand created an emotional hold between me and the book by vividly describing the feelings of other characters. For me there seemed to be a sad vibe throughout the book and I continuously was able to feel the sorrow which Clara felt. While reading UNEARTHLY I had moments where I had been like where is this meant to lead? How is this going to work out?  So many secrets begin to unfold as the book progresses which answers many unanswered questions, but at the end of the book I was left with just as many questions.

When I came to the end of the book I felt an urge to go into hibernation so I could wait for the next book to come out. I have no idea where the next book will lead Clara but there are so many paths and routes this story could go. I'll just have to survive until the next book comes out!

Rating:

4.5/5
