Synopsis

Valerie always wanted to be the smart girl. The pretty girl. The popular girl.

But not the rape girl..

That’s who she is now. Rape Girl. Because everyone seems to think they know the truth about what happened with Adam that day, and they don’t think Valerie’s telling it..

Before, she had a best friend, a crush, and a close-knit family. After, she has a court case, a support group, and a house full of strangers..

The real truth is, nothing will ever be the same..

Rape Girl is the compelling story of a survivor who does the right thing and suffers for it. It is also the story of a young woman’s struggle to find the strength to fight back.

My Thoughts

RAPE GIRL was a short but powerful read which gets to the point and touches upon the topic of rape in a manner which creates awareness as well as highlighting the affects of rape.

I wasn't sure what to expect of the book when I started it. You are thrown into flashback scenes which then switches back to the present, this occurs throughout the book. This helps illustrate the story as a whole and gives you the whole picture. It definitely speaks about the topic of rape in a sensitive way that expresses how fragile or damaged a person can be after becoming a victim. However it also presents ways to overcome the challenges that it may bring and how to come out on top even when everything seems to be weighing you down.

I would have loved to read more and that would have given me the chance to really get to know the main character Valerie but I think the way it was written really focussed on the right parts and exposed the emotions of a victim. The ending was rather empowering in some sense as it shows how Valerie stays strong even though it doesn't give much away about the future. RAPE GIRL gives you a realistic idea of what actually happens in real life and gives you an insight into a young person's mind and their feelings.

I definitely reccommend reading RAPE GIRL, it a short and engaging read that will have you hooked.
